FSG Elementary In the News
Our students are making headlines, and we want to share all the great news with you. We will keep this page updated with important announcements, news stories, and student shout-outs. Please check back often, and help us celebrate our students’ many achievements.
K–3 students will be participating in an author visit on Friday, May 10 at FSG. We have collaborated with several nearby school districts to bring this educational opportunity to our students. Mr. Greg Pizzoli is an author and illustrator from Philadelphia, PA. He has published a variety of children’s books, including award winning titles The Watermelon Seed and Tricky Vic. Mr. Pizzoli will spend the morning at FSG presenting his latest book to the students. Presentation times are as follows: grades K–1 at 8:30 a.m. and grades 2–3 at 9:45 a.m. Parents are welcome to attend! If, as a parent, you plan to attend, please RSVP to the office by the end of the school day on Friday, May 3.
Our FSG family donated $2,116 to the American Heart Association and the millions of Americans they serve through our Jump Rope for Heart event. We continue to raise awareness about heart-healthy living and are helping this organization fund more lifesaving scientific research and critically needed education efforts. Student thank-you gifts will ship from the American Heart Association in the next few weeks! Your child will receive the gifts they earned as soon as they arrive at the school. Thank you again for all your support of this great program!
There are several field trips scheduled for the remainder of the year. These trips provide our students with great learning opportunities beyond the classroom, engaging them on a higher level. While planning for these trips, especially with the way they dress, please consider the weather for the day as well as the destination.
Attention, parents of 2nd and 5th grade students! State mandated exams are due for your child next year. Students going into 3rd grade need a dental exam, and students going into 6th grade need a physical exam. We handed out paperwork for these exams at the November parent-teacher conferences. Please make an appointment for these exams so your child is ready to start school in August. Thank you!
In conjunction with the cafeteria, Francis S. Grandinetti Elementary School staff and students will have the opportunity to participate in several theme dress days. The cafeteria menu will offer food choices that match the theme as well.

We are looking forward to these fun days!
There is no school on Friday, April 19 and on Monday, April 22 for Easter break. School resumes on Tuesday, April 23. Have a wonderful holiday!
We do permit students to begin wearing shorts after April 1. Please monitor the weather in the morning and throughout the day when considering the wearing of shorts. This is especially important right now considering how cold the days have been, and our building is generally cooler as well.
As we continue to move towards the time of our state assessments, students will continue to learn, practice, and apply the grade level skills expected of them. We will continue to ask families to help us by practicing math facts and reading each night. This support, even a few minutes each day, truly does make a difference! We know that we cannot effectively help our students alone. Our parents are our partners, and we need your help! Please be sure to avoid any vacation plans or other appointments that might keep students from school on these days. We appreciate your understanding!
Please mark your calendar for the PSSA testing dates.
